Retail owners and tenants have lagged behind other property sectors in sustainability because benchmarking comparisons with competitors have been nonexistant. But ICSC's new Property Efficiency Scorecard is changing all that by allowing "apples to apples" comparisons between shopping centers, says program developer Patrick Leonard, practice area manager of portfolio services with Paladino and Company, a Seattle-based green building and sustainability consulting firm.
